We'll start with the case studies first before concluding on Good Governance. This week we'll do a comparative study of various HEALTHCARE systems. Remember under the "Goals of State", one of the key pillar was welfare distribution?
So!
At the end of the unit, you will:
1) understand the importance of providing healthcare in the state
2) evaluate different healthcare systems (especially Singapore's)
3) draw conclusions on policy making by the government
By now, all of you are in your groups, please follow the instructions below:

Lesson ONE(1 Hour) Introduction:
Each group will go through the suggested resources as posted in the different pages and collectively analyse & evaluate the healthcare system allocated to you. You may do your own online research and find out more about them. Be prepared to discuss the following in the next lesson:
1) history for the healthcare system (trace the milestones of healthcare policies & the rationale for the changes)
2) roles of the government, community and individuals in providing healthcare
3) advantages & disadvantages of the system
4) what are the challenges face by the State today, and how they are proposing to solve the problem
Besides the suggested resources, you are expected to look up other sources and if you find them useful, feel free to add them on your page! Evidence of work done:
To ensure that all of you log on to this wiki by 2pm on Tuesday. Every group member must jot your thoughts about the system you are researching on in the discussion page. This will help your group members to consider the various points before you get together and build on the page in the next lesson! :)
I'll check your comments and use that as attendance for the lesson.
Lesson TWO(1 Hour)
Today you will build on the page I've started. All of you are given editing rights to the page, so please click on edit and start keying in your points. Evidence of work done:
Every member has to contribute to the page. Group leaders may want to work out a system? (eg 1 member to be in-charge of a segment, the rest will check and edit after 1/2 hour?)
By 2pm on Thursday, I'll be looking through the quality of your page and may recommend changes. Group leaders are expected to manage your page and monitor your group member's entries.
'Home'work(This can be done earlier too, for those of you who are enthusiastic!)
1) Visit the other pages that the other groups have put up. Do you have any questions for them? 3 discussion treads are started for you to post your questions about a specific healthcare system. The 'expert' group from last lesson will try to answer your queries.
2) On the 4th discussion tread, tell us which you think is the best amongst the 3 and why?
Feedback required:
I hope you'll have lots of fun. Fifth discussion tread is for your reflections. Tell us
1) about the lesson
2) about what you've learnt about healthcare and policy making
For the shy ones who find it embarrassing to speak up in class, and for those careful thinkers who need time to organise their thoughts before speaking up, this is THE opportunity for you to earn some Online Participation (OP) points!
I hope to see clarity of thought, relevant evidence, breadth and depth of discussion. Take good care of selves, and see you guys real soon!
Stuck at home with nothing to do? No worries! We'll get started with this term's work!
